Getting Involved

Angus gets close attention from other areas in Scotland and throughout the UK who would like to set up similar maternity services.

We are constantly looking to improve what we do and users of our service play a big part in this. This is done both through the Angus Maternity Services Liaison Committee and user groups attached to each unit.

The recently formed MUMs (Maternity Users Montrose) group usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month at The Picture House, Hume Street, Montrose from 7.30-9.30pm. MUMs also runs an e-mail group called Birth in Montrose for anyone who has had or is planning to have a baby at Montrose, or who receives care from the Montrose midwives. New members are welcome.

If you are interested in supporting the development of the community maternity units in Angus, please contact Montrose user representive Avril Nicoll. You can reach Avril using the contact form below:

To learn more about MSLCs across the UK see the Department of Health (England) funded website MSLC. And, although it relates to England, the Department of Health's February 2007 report Making it better: For Mother and Baby is well worth a read as it explains why midwife-led community units / birth centres are such an important part of maternity provision. This 'Clinical case for change' is presented by Sheila Shribman, National Clinical Director for Children, Young People and Maternity Services.
