My environment for labour and birth

It is important that you feel relaxed in your surroundings. The units in Angus have developed birthing rooms that are homely, calm and comfortable. As well as birthing pools, we provide birth mats, birthing balls and birthing stools. We can dim the lights and we have CD players. You can bring your own music or choose from our selection. An 'active' labour can be helpful in lots of ways, and both units have stairs and indoor and outdoor spaces where you can move around.

Some women plan a homebirth because that is where they feel most confident and secure.

The most important thing is that the environment suits you and your supporter(s) and we encourage you to make the space your own during your stay. We make sure you do not have unnecessary disturbance and that your privacy is respected.

In Angus we also encourage you to eat and drink if you wish during labour, as following your instincts makes it more likely you will have a straightforward birth.
