The new strategy of MUMs (Maternity Users Montrose) has provoked a positive comment in the Leader column of the Courier.
A news story in the Angus edition told how MUMs are concentrating their fundraising efforts on assisting with making the existing unit more comfortable, now that plans for the new unit have been suspended. The Leader column is the newspaper's editorial, which goes out in all editions. Its third item said in full:
"MUMS STAND FAST
The surprise withdrawal of funding for the proposed new maternity unit at Montrose, at least for the immediate future, has taken the wind out of the sails of fundraisers. Instead, the Maternity Users Montrose Group (MUMS) hopes to contribute to sprucing up the existing unit.
Health authorities are fortunate if they have the loyal support of local groups that give generously of their time and spare cash. It is to be hoped that a way will be found for MUMs to continue to play a supportive role. Montrose's baby unit is well regarded and that should continue."
MUMs meets on the first Tuesday of every month at The Picture House, Hume Street, Montrose from 7.30-9.30pm. Anyone with an interest in supporting the work of the midwives is welcome.
