The Dundee Courier is reporting today that a top NHS Tayside official has given a public assurance that the new Montrose Maternity Unit project will go ahead when funds become available.
The confirmation came from deputy chief executive Gerry Marr. The new unit was due to open in the grounds of the Infirmary by the end of 2010, but plans were suspended on 25th January. Other capital projects were similarly affected.
When contacted by the Courier, user representative Avril Nicoll said it was great to have public confirmation of the message Montrose Maternity had been getting privately.
Vice-chairwoman of MUMs (Maternity Users Montrose) Irene Hughes also welcomed the "fantastic news" that the future of the unit in the town was assured.
The issue is expected to be the main item of discussion at the Angus Maternity Services Liaison Committee meeting on 31st March. Anyone who is interested in participating in the MSLC should contact midwifery team leader Phyllis Winters on 01674 832175.
