Montrose's Moonwalking midwives

On June 19th, five midwives from Montrose Maternity are taking part in the 2010 Edinburgh Moonwalk.

Around 12,000 women and men will walk the marathon in brightly decorated bras whilst raising money for vital breast cancer charities in Scotland. Phyllis, Shona, Julie, Iona and Fiona have been in training for the last few months to ensure that they can complete the challenging task. Fit and prepared, they say the only task left is to create beautiful costumes that can cover the effects of too much chocolate - and this may prove to be the greatest challenge of all!

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and the midwives are keen to contribute to the essential and encouraging work that charities do. Prevention is part of that, so the midwives also want to emphasise an important message:

Remember - breastfeeding your baby may help to reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
