June 18, 2010
Montrose's busiest week this year saw the 100th beautiful birth for 2010 when Jen Cowan had baby Jamie in the birthing pool.
Jamie's birth on the morning Thursday 17th June was also an emotional moment for student midwife Cecile, who declared it was "the most lovely birth I have ever seen".
The week took off with four births on Monday alone. It was all hands on deck, and all inflatable pools called into action, and the midwives and women were all smiling and drinking tea by the time the night shift arrived.
Wednesday was the annual Believe in Birth student study day hosted by the Montrose team. This year the event also welcomed student speakers; Julie from Napier University told stories and played some interesting music, while Emily from Dundee University finished the day with her popular yogabirth session. Montrose's own Sarah Semple (healthcare assistant) inspired the students with her Montrose birth story, along with other mums Sarah and Emma.
The Montrose team thanked everyone involved for making the day so enjoyable, and the students left full of home baking and ready to take the midwifery world by storm.
Montrose midwives Phyllis, Iona, Julie, Shona and Fiona are now mustering their strength to complete the week by walking the 26 miles of the Edinburgh Moonwalk on Saturday.
