MUMs group for twins or more

Any parents and carers (or parents-to-be) of twins and multiples are invited to a tea party on 30th June to launch the new Montrose Twin and Multiple birth group.

The informal group is being set up by MUMs (Maternity Users Montrose). MUMs has had a successful period of fundraising, with £1200 donated to make the unit more comfortable for the women and families who use it. The group is now concentrating on identifying where they can support expectant and new parents and carers. Phase one was the introduction of free Pregnancy Yoga classes, and it is now the turn of those with twin and multiple pregnancies or children.

As most antenatal appointments for women expecting more than one baby have to take place at Ninewells Hospital rather than the local midwifery units in Angus, those involved can feel isolated. MUMs hopes the new group will help them feel more connected, and give them an opportunity to share worries and woes as well as the enjoyment of double (or more) of the fun.

The tea party and first meeting is on Wednesday 30th June from 1-3pm at Montrose Maternity Unit. Fittingly, this is during the the official Twins, Triplets & More Week 2010. All local health visitors in Montrose and Brechin have been contacted with details. There is no restriction on how long ago your children were born, and all are welcome.

MUMs member Irene Hughes says she hopes the group will run on an informal basis without the need for a formal committee or ongoing costs for those attending, other than the occasional packet of biscuits. She adds, "The hope is that it will provide a meeting point for local people similar circumstances to be able to discuss any concerns or problems face to face instead of just via chat rooms and web sites!" Irene can be contacted on 07847571585, or speak to your health visitor if you are interested.

To support or join the MUMs group, get in touch via the MUMs group pages on Facebook or by contacting chairperson Vicki Cracknell on 07952463815.
