A record number of swimmers and spectators attended the swim at Montrose beach on New Year's Day, raising over £200 for Montrose Maternity Unit.
Midwife Julie Cabrelli, one of the participants, says, "The spectators gave generously after seeing twelve of us braving the icy cold sea. It was definitely the coldest I have experienced yet!"
She explains the inspiration for this annual torture is the evidence that a daily dip in the sea boosts immune levels and increases happy hormones. Far from being put off by the cold she says, "It certainly is one of the most invigorating and exhilirating things I do - perhaps I should try it more than once a year!"
