Have you used midwifery services in Angus recently? Would you like to help shape maternity services for future families?
The Nursing and Midwifery Council is conducting a review of the effectiveness of midwifery supervision across the North of Scotland. We would like to invite local women to take part in a group videoconference question and answer session with the Review Team. This will involve talking about your own experience of maternity services and - if applicable – of midwifery supervision. As well as giving us valuable feedback, we hope it will be interesting and informative for those of you taking part.
The session is on 7 July 2011, provisionally from 11.45-12.30. Although the review itself is being held in Inverness, there are videoconferencing facilities booked in Forfar (Kinnordy Room, Whitehills Health & Community Care Centre) or, if it is more convenient, in Aberdeen.
In spite of the name, midwifery supervision is different from management and independent of the employer. A Supervisor of Midwives is an experienced midwife who has extra training for the role, which is to make sure that every woman’s midwifery care is safe and of a high standard. As well as supporting and guiding midwives, Supervisors also give additional support on request to women. This may be to assist with birth choices, to improve communication between you and your midwife, or to discuss your birth experiences.
In Angus, Supervisors of Midwives come under the North of Scotland Local Supervising Authority. It works on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and covers Tayside, Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles.
If you would be willing to take part and are able to get to Forfar or Aberdeen, please contact Phyllis Winters, midwifery team leader at Montrose, on 01674 832175 or by email.
