	<title>Time for TEA</title>
	<link>http://www.birthinangus.org.uk/index/news-app/story.234/title.time-for-tea</link>
	<description>

Congratulations to Montrose Midwife Iona Duckett, who came
top of NHS Tayside’s Leading Better Care project. Iona gave an excellent
presentation discussing the TEA (Tool for emotional assessment), which she
devised and developed.

&nbsp;

Iona recognised that whilst physical wellbeing is regularly
assessed throughout labour, emotional wellbeing is often neglected. This can
result in women having negative feelings about their experiences and feelings
of disempowerment. There is also evidence that this affects whether or not a
woman has a normal birth.

&nbsp;

 The TEA  provides a visual aid for women to indicate
how they are feeling and offers suggestions for the midwife of supportive
interventions to ensure the labouring woman feels safe, in control and supported
throughout.
