Every year the midwives in Montrose host a student study day. Midwifery students from all over Scotland flood into the town to hear about ways to keep normal birth normal.
The midwives offer informal presentations on topics such as water birth, normal birth and communication. User representatives and parents are invited, to speak about what matters to them and their role in shaping maternity services.
The aim of the day is to inspire students to respect and nurture the women they care for and ultimately to believe in the process of birth. We hope the students leave this day motivated and with confidence to practice holistically.
The 2010 event will take place on 16th of June.
Here's what the students said in 2008:
“Fantastic to see a unit which demonstrates normality. It proves it can be done.”
“Thank you for providing me with a positive outlook on normal deliveries.”
“The day has been brilliant. The unit is lovely.”
“I have been quite disillusioned with midwifery practice recently but today has renewed my faith in being 'with woman' and I hope it will show in my professional practice when I return to my placement.”
“Everyone is so friendly.”
