The role of the birthing partner is extremely important in helping you cope with labour. There is evidence that good support can shorten the length of labour and reduce the amount of pain relief necessary.
Your birth partner can be your partner, a relative or a friend. You may wish to have more than one person supporting you - perhaps even to have your other children present - or you may choose to be supported solely by the midwife. Whoever you choose should be comfortable in the role, and make you feel safe and cared for. We welcome your choice and will do our upmost to make everyone part of the team during your labour and birth. Further information especially geared to dads is available from the organisation Dad info.
Midwifery students are welcome in Angus. It is a popular choice with students because they can gain valuable experience of supporting straightforward birth, including waterbirth. We hope you enjoy this chance to shape the midwives of the future, but please just let us know if you would prefer not to have students involved in your care.
